Nine killed in Madhya Pradesh accident
May 19th, 2009 - 4:48 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, May 19 (IANS) At least nine people, including seven children, were killed and 20 injured when the tractor trolley they were travelling in overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Tikamgarh district, police said Tuesday.
“The accident took place late Monday in Nanhi Tekri locality when the driver lost balance while negotiating a turn and the tractor trolley overturned,” said an official of Bodera police station.
“All the 29 people on the tractor trolley were returning from a religious festival. While nine of them, including seven children, died on the spot, 20 others were injured,” he added.
Tikamgarh is around 350 km from Bhopal.
“The district administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.10,000 each for the kin of those killed. The injured are being provided Rs.5,000 each,” Tikamgarh District Collector P. Rahi told IANS over phone.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also announced Rs.50,000 as compensation for the family members of the victims.
