Nine envoys present credentials to President Patil

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) Nine foreign envoys, including British High Commissioner James David Bevan, presented their credentials to President Pratibha Patil Thursday.
According to a statement from the president’s office, Patil welcomed the ambassadors and emphasized that the countries world over “have a stake in the orderly functioning of the global economy”.
“It is important that there is a coordinated approach to address these (economic) issues,” she stressed.
For India and other developing countries, the president said, the concern was on how these global trends impact their development prospects.
“In India the goal is rapid inclusive and sustainable development for meeting the aspirations of the people, in which energy, food and ecological security are amongst high areas of priority,” she said.
Patil also stressed on the need for international cooperation to combat terrorism, “as it is a phenomenon that is a grave threat to global stability”.
Besides Britain’s Bevan, the envoys who presented their credentials include Idriss Raoua of Burkina Faso, Joao Gomes Cravinho of the European Union, Manuel Eduardo dos Santos e Silva Bravo of Angola, Saud Bin Mohammed A. Al Sati of Saudi Arabia, Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte of Brazil, Patrick Medecin of Monaco, Arye Kumar Jagessur of Mauritius, and Humaid Ould Ahmed Taleb of Mauritania.
