New Delhi, June 24 (IANS) A 39-year-old Nigerian national was arrested in east Delhi for allegedly cheating a man of Rs.10 lakh, police said Friday.

“Nzogwu P. Osondu, who hails from Benin city in Nigeria, was arrested from Seelampur after police laid a trap for him Thursday and recovered fake US currency,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain.

Osondu was arrested following a complaint by Arsar Khan who alleged that Osondu had duped him of Rs.10 lakh under the guise of giving him millions of US dollars and gold.

Asrar Khan told police that he met Anani Anka Can of South Africa through internet who told him that they have money worth hundred of million dollars, gold and diamonds which they want to be used for upliftment of Muslims in India.

He gave him the offer of using 70 percent of the amount to build mosques and pocket the rest.

Khan was asked to deposit Rs.150,000 and Rs.325,000, respectively, for cargo shipment and custom clearance in the accounts of some Nazruddin and Wahida Begum. Osandu again duped him of Rs.600,000 on some pretext.

“Khan got suspicious and informed us following which Osandu was arrested,” said Jain. Osandu was staying illegally in India as his visa had expired May 17.
