Nigeria terror: Government to bring home Indian’s body
January 23rd, 2012 - 9:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) India Monday said it was making all efforts to get the body of an Indian victim in the Mumbai-style terror attack on Nigeria’s second largest city of Kano.
External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said the Indian embassy was in touch with Nigerian officials on the matter.
“Our embassy is in touch with the Nigerian government. Our government will get the body back to India,” Krishna told reporters here.
Kevalkumar Kalidas Rajput, 23, who hailed from Gujarat and worked for Kano-based company Relchem since March 2011, was among the over 160 killed in the attack carried out by heavily armed Islamist militants Sunday.
Rajput and his two Nepali colleagues, Hari Prasad Bhusal and Raj Singh, died when their car apparently entered a scene of hostilities, according to the Indian mission in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
“It is very unfortunate that (this death happened) in spite of the fact that our embassy has put out an advisory to all Indian nationals not to go into the areas where we were anticipating problems and trouble.
“Unfortunately, this gentleman did stray into those areas and he was hit in the cross-fire and a very precious human life has been lost,” Krishna added.
