New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought within two months an independent investigation report on the killing of two suspected militants in alleged fake encounter at Imphal in Manipur, said an official here Thursday.

“Manipur’s director general of police and Imphal’s district magistrate have been issued notice for submitting inquest, post-mortem reports along with independent investigation report within two months into the matter,” said an NHRC official.

The encounter was reported in Imphal West district July 30, 2012.

The widow of one of those killed, Sukham Naobicha, has alleged that her husband was an innocent person and earning his livelihood as an ice-cream vendor to support his family.

The commission has directed authorities to take appropriate action for investigation in the case as per the guidelines laid down in its letter of May 25, 2010, to the chief ministers of all the states.

The contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims, observed the commission.

The commission has taken cognizance of the allegations in a media report, which was forwarded to it by a complainant.
