Newly married man repeatedly stabbed, set on fire in Punjab

Mohali (Punjab), Oct 3 (IANS) A man, who was married about 10 weeks back, was repeatedly stabbed and his body was set on fire near Punjab’s Kharar town, the police said Friday.The incident took place late Thursday close to Kharar-Landran road, about 15 km from here. His motorcycle was also set ablaze.

“The residents of Swarn village near Kharar town found flames and smoke coming from near the railway track. We went to the spot and extinguished the fire,” said Gian Chand, station house officer, government railway police, Kharar.

“The body was burnt completely except a little portion of his face where there were injury marks. There were also deep wounds at the back of his neck. It seems that someone stabbed him several times,” said Chand.

Gurcharan Singh, 34, was married two-and-a-half-months back. He was running an electrical goods repair shop in Kharar.

The police have found a packet of red chilli powder from the spot.

The body was handed over to Singh’s family members after post mortem examination at civil hospital Kharar.
