‘Nervous’ Dikshit warns tardy contractors of blacklisting
December 21st, 2009 - 7:43 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 21 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who has admitted to being nervous over the preparedness for the Commonwealth Games, Monday said contractors responsible for delay in games projects will be blacklisted.
“The government will not listen to any excuses for delay in projects completion and contractors responsible for delays would be blacklisted apart from other contractual action against them,” the chief minister said, a day after expressing her anxiety over the delay in completion of projects.
After attending the Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting Sunday, Dikshit had expressed her haplessness about the capital’s preparations for the event. “I’m still not comfortable… nervous, but I think we can do it in the end.”
Dikshit was addressing officers Monday on the occasion of her government completing 11 years in office.
She instructed all the departments concerned to take “strong measures for completion of projects relating to Commonwealth Games 2010 and work in tandem to avoid any confusion and duplication of work causing delay”.
“As the host city, we have to work together to make the Games a memorable event. The developed infrastructure will become an integral part of our legacy. The PWD (Public Works Department) is striving hard to ensure quality and longevity of construction being done for the Games,” Dikshit added.
The chief minister also said that her government has launched a “civility” campaign to bring awareness about courtesy, etiquette and good manners.
“We cannot afford to let down our nation and we are committed to make Commonwealth Games 2010 a grand success,” Dikshit said.
She said under her leadership, the national capital is gradually becoming “a real drawing room of the entire nation”.
Dikshit also asked all departments concerned to improve their collection mechanism to generate required revenue collections. “Efforts must be made to overcome situation of tax avoidance so that the government may not feel to put an extra burden of taxes on people”.
The Delhi Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place Oct 3-14, 2010.
