New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS) Nepal Monday said it won’t allow anti-India activities like influx of fake currency notes, movement of terrorists and smuggling of arms and goods from its territory into Indian side.

The assurance was given as top security officials from the two countries here discussed their ties in curbing cross-border crimes and terrorist activities in the region.

Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh held discussions with his Nepalese counterpart Sushil Jung Bahadur, on cooperation in countering circulation of fake Indian currency notes, smuggling of arms and ammunitions, according to a home ministry spokesperson here.

The Nepalese official assured his country was working in a pro-active manner to check the influx of fake Indian notes - a major concern for India as these are often smuggled through the porous India-Nepal border.

The two sides also decided to share terror-related information on a real-time basis according to which home secretaries of the two countries can telephone each other to discuss or seek cooperation on any terror-related issues then and there only.

Issues relating to trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances and misuse of SIM Cards from Nepal were also discussed, the spokesperson said.

Sharing of information and intelligence reports, progress in establishment of integrated check posts and border roads and India’s support to training and capacity building of Nepal’s security apparatus were also discussed.

India also assured of helping Nepal in modernising immigration facilities at the Tribhuvan International Airport for smooth transit of passengers to and from the Himalayan country.

“Singh appreciated the assurance of the Nepalese government for not allowing its territory to be used for activities inimical to India’s interest and also assured Nepal of India’s commitment to provide all necessary cooperation and assistance,” the spokesperson said.

The meeting was held in a cordial environment and both the countries expressed their satisfaction on the outcome of the issues deliberated during the meeting.

They hoped the ties will go a long way in addressing mutual security concerns, enhancing cooperation and friendly relations between the two countries.

Singh led a 23-member Indian delegation that included head of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Pranay Sahay and police officers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and officers of central police organizations.

The Nepal side was represented by an 11-member delegation.
