Nearly 90 percent pass rate for Delhi in Class 10 exams
May 28th, 2010 - 11:36 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 28 (IANS) The Delhi region recorded a success rate of 89.04 percent - a rise of 1.34 percent - in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 exams, whose results were declared Friday.
A total of 251,644 students appeared in the Delhi region, and of them 224,065 were successful.
The government schools in the capital also saw 90.99 percent girls and boys getting qualifying certificates, an increase of 1.55 percent compared to last year.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the number of students who appeared from the government schools in Class 10 also increased from 116,054 to 132,020 this time.
The city government schools were also the best performers among the government schools in the whole country, while Panchkula remained at the second spot with 70.56 percent of students in the region getting qualifying certificates.
Congratulating the students and their parents on the performance, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said: “They have made us proud. The success has also been possible with the concerted efforts of the directorate of education and its innovative approach”.
Dikshit also congratulated girls who have fared better than boys. While 90.05 girls have got qualifying certificate in the capital, the percentage among boys is 88.15.
She said Delhi will strive hard to implement the Right to Education (RTE) in true spirit in the next three years.
