New Delhi, May 16 (IANS) The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Monday demanded the recall of Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj for “unconstitutional” acts and will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the issue.
“For repeatedly defying the constitution, it is but appropriate that he be recalled as the governor,” senior party leader Arun Jaitley told reporters here even as Karnataka’s BJP government is apprehensive of Bhardwaj recommending President’s Rule in the state.
“We strongly condemn the action of governor of Karnataka, repeatedly he is indulging in unconstitutionality,” he said referring to a report that Bhardwaj has sent to President Pratibha Patil.
NDA leaders will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday evening to discuss the Karnataka crisis. The decision was taken at a meeting of NDA leaders chaired by the alliance chairperson L.K. Advani at his house in the capital.
A fresh crisis erupted for the BJP government in the state led by B.S. Yeddyurappa after the Supreme Court quashed the disqualification of 11 BJP and five independent legislators by the speaker of the Karnataka assembly in October last year.
