May 31st, 2010 - 7:32 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 31 (IANS) An Indian Navy employee arrested by Delhi Police on espionage charges was Monday sent to 14-day judicial custody by a city court.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja asked Tihar Jail authorities to present Chand Kumar Prasad, 24, in court June 13.
He was presented in the court Monday after five days of custodial interrogation.
According to police, Prasad was arrested May 26 from New Delhi Railway Station under the Official Secrets Act. He was found carrying documents related to the navy, along with details of the recce he did of the Meerut Cantonment and other army bases for his Pakistani handlers.
“In the last two years, Prasad has made a number of trips to different areas in Uttar Pradesh like Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad and places near the Nepal border. We suspect that these are the places he went to hand over sensitive documents to his handlers,” a police official said.
Prasad was arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan and police have recovered some “secret and sensitive” documents like photographs of Hindon Air Base and a map of Meerut Cantonment.
He was posted in the navy’s aircraft maintenance unit in Mumbai.
