Navodaya Vidyalayas surpass others in CBSE Class 12 exams
May 21st, 2010 - 1:35 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 21 (IANS) The autonomous Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) have outdone other schools across India with a pass percentage of 95.31 in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams.
Last year, the pass percentage of JNVs was 94.09.
JNVs are autonomous schools under the human resource development ministry.
The performance of JNVs was followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) where the overall pass percentage was 91.13, a drop of 0.19 percent from last year.
In government schools, the pass percentage this year was 84.49, an increase of 1.68 percent compared to last year.
Independent schools, popularly known as public schools, have registered a pass percentage of 79.42, a drop of 1.52 percent from last year.
Among others, the central Tibetan schools under the CBSE have registered a pass percentage of 79.25 as against 91.15 percent in 2009.
The pass percentage in private schools has also shown a drop. As compared to their pass percentage of 49.72 last year, this year they registered a drop of 7.73 percent. Thus their pass percentage this year was 41.99.
This year, 699,129 students - 408,367 boys and 290,762 girls - took the Class 12 board exams in India and abroad. The overall pass percentage- 79.87- this year has seen a drop of 1.13 percent compared to last year.
The Chennai region performed the best amongst all six regions of CBSE. The pass percentage in this region was 92.17, followed by Delhi with 84.97 percent. The Guwahati region, with a pass percentage of 69.50, scored the lowest.
