Naval band chief celebrates silver jubilee

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS) Indian Navy’s Master Chief Petty Officer Ramesh Chand Katoch, who led the brass band at the Republic Day parade here, marched down Rajpath for the 25th consecutive year.

Katoch, who led 81 musicians, was leading the naval band for 14th time.

The naval contingent, comprising 144 men, was led by Lt. Cdr. K. Manikandan. The naval tableau, which showcased efforts at fighting piracy in the high seas, was led by Lt. Cdr. Genu George.

The tableau had models of a Delhi class Destroyer warship, an IL-38 long range maritime reconnaissance aircraft, a drone unmanned aerial vehicle, and a globe showing Indian Ocean region.

The navy has carried out anti-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean since 2008. Indian warships have escorted 1,905 merchant vessels, of which 400 were Indian-flagged.
