Nature walk for school kids at Dikshit’s house
October 5th, 2011 - 1:09 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS) Students from different schools across the city, Tuesday savoured a nature walk at Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s residence as part of the Wildlife Week observed Oct 1-7 annually.
The walk was organized organized by the World Wide Fund (WWF) - India in association with the India Habitat Centre and the Delhi government.
“The students got an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the lush green spaces of the CM’s house where they learnt about exotic and indigenous trees like bottle brush, giant lemon, fish-tail palm, etc and the bats, birds, reptiles etc. that these trees provide a habitat to,” a WWF official said.
The students also witnessed other faunal and floral diversity apart from witnessing many bats hanging from various trees around the bungalow as there are around 2,000 fruit bats present in the vicinity of the campus.
“Birds like the rufous tree-pie, laughing dove, peafowls etc were also spotted by the kids who were also informed about the aquatic ecosystem with reference to the fresh pink water lily pond in the vicinity,” said the official.
“The importance of butterflies and their life-cycle was explained along with the plant interaction in the forest ecosystem,” the official added.
