NATO has no information on Gaddafi whereabouts
September 8th, 2011 - 11:17 am ICT by IANSPrague, Sep 8 (IANS/RIA Novosti) NATO has no information on where ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has taken refuge, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said.
“I have no information whatsoever about his whereabouts, and let me add to that, he is not a target of NATO operations,” Rasmussen told reporters in Prague.
“We are in Libya to protect the civilian population against attacks and we will continue that operation until there’s no threat,” he said.
The secretary general said it was too early to speak about when the international operation in Libya will end, but added that NATO had already reached the final phase of the operation.
According to information from Libyan sources, Gaddafi could be hiding in Bani Walid, one of the last bastions of forces loyal to him, or in his hometown of Sirte.
