NATO convoys’ blockade may last weeks: Gilani

London, Dec 12 (IANS) The blockade of NATO supplies through Pakistan would continue for several weeks, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said.
Islamabad stopped the passage of NATO supplies through the country following the Nov 26 NATO airstrikes on two army checkposts that left two dozen soldiers dead, sparking protests in Pakistan.
Gilani told BBC that Pakistan may continue its blockade of Nato convoys heading for Afghanistan for several weeks.
He said Islamabad and Washington have to trust each other better.
“Yes, there is a credibility gap, we are working together and still we don’t trust each other.
“I think we have to improve our relationship so that… we should have more confidence in each other,” Gilani was quoted as saying.
On Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s sudden departure for Dubai from Islamabad that sparked coup rumours, Gilani denied it saying: “Rumours are rumours.”
The prime minister said Zardari was making rapid improvement in hospital in Dubai, but would need two weeks’ rest before returning home.
He also denied that the president had written a letter of resignation.
“Why should he write,” asked Gilani. “He has the backing and support of the entire parliament.”
