I call on all parties to remain calm in the face of this provocation,” said the head of the 26-member alliance.

Scheffer stressed that NATO remains determined to continue its mission to help bring security and stability to Afghanistan. NATO has around 50,000 troops under its ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
