Nationwide database of licensed arms holders soon
February 23rd, 2010 - 8:09 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) The government will review the Arms Act and prepare a nationwide database of licensed weapon holders and manufacturers in India, the parliament was told Tuesday.
Various provisions of the Arms Act, 1959, and Arms Rules, 1962, will be reviewed, Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran told the Lok Sabha.
The revision of the rules is being done “with regard to grant of arms licences for possession of arms and ammunition by individuals and manufacture of fire-arms in the country”, Ramachandran said in a written reply.
“This also includes a proposal to make a provision under the Arms Rules, under which the licensing authorities will be required to maintain a database and to share the data with the government which shall maintain a national database,” he said.
