Nationwide campaign must to counter terror: Kalam
September 26th, 2008 - 11:12 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 26 (IANS) Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Friday stressed that a nationwide campaign was necessary to combat terrorism and said that he had sent a proposal on the issue to the central government in the wake of the recent serial bombings in various parts of the country. “The proposal stresses on the need to undertake a nationwide campaign to contain terrorism,” Kalam said while addressing students and teachers of the S.S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College affiliated to the Allahabad University.
The former president is on a two-day visit here and he is set to attend several programmes organised by various educational institutes.
Kalam said his proposal also underlines the need for speedy trial of cases related to terrorism. It also emphasises on constituting a single intelligence agency in the country, he added.
Advocating women’s empowerment, Kalam appealed to the students to strive to promote education and health of women.
Kalam is set to interact with students of Shambhunath Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET) Saturday and inspect a bio-diesel plant and jatropha farm of the institute, officials said.
