National cue sports meet: Varsha in line for triple crown

Pune, Jan 22 (IANS) Local challenger Arya Pimpale and defending champion Varsha Sanjeev entered the final of the sub-junior girls snooker event in the Manisha Constructions National Billiards and Snooker Championship here Sunday.

In the semifinals, Arya overcame Lahari Sinaprra of Andhra 2-1, while Bangalore’s Varsha scored a 2-0 win over Delhi’s Keerat Bhandal.

Varsha also put herself in line for a triple crown by reaching the final of the junior girls billiards event as she beat Arya 162-85 to set up a clash with Keerat, who defeated Lahari Sinaprra 154-109 in the semi-finals.

Varsha had annexed the gir’s sub-junior billiards crown Saturday.

Meanwhile, former World champion Pankaj Advani began his campaign in the senior snooker championship with a century break as he trounced Tamil Nadu’s Bhuvaneshwaran 3-1 in a Group A match.

Nine-times World billiards champion Geet Sethi scored two wins in Group C as he downed Anmoldeep Singh of Punjab 3-0 and Shekar Surve of Railway Sports Board 3-0.
