Narendra Modi to sit on fast

Gandhinagar, Sep 13 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said he will sit on a three-day fast from Saturday to strengthen the state’s “peace, unity and harmony”.
In an open letter to announce the launch of his ‘Sadbhavana mission’, Modi said: “Yesterday, the apex court of the country delivered an important judgment regarding the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat. Everyone is interpreting this judgment in his own way. One thing is apparent, however. The unhealthy environment created by the unfounded and false allegations made against me and government of Gujarat, after 2002 riots, has come to an end.”
He said it had become “fashionable” to defame him, ading that Gujarat had witnessed “unparalleled phase of peace, harmony, and development” despite the propaganda against him.
The Supreme Court Monday said the trial court in Ahmedabad will decide on the petition by Zakia Jafri, widow of former MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the Gulberg Society carnage during the 2002 riots, alleging Narendra Modi of deliberate inaction.
