Naina Sahni murder: Sharma allowed to nurse mother
August 25th, 2010 - 7:52 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday granted permission to Sushil Sharma, a former Youth Congress leader convicted in the Naina Sahni murder case, to attend to his ailing mother for seven hours.
He was granted permission by Justice Hima Kohli.
Sharma had moved his application July 5 seeking parole to attend to his ailing parents. In his application, he sought three months’ parole to re-establish social ties with his family members.
The court asked the government to submit a report on his application by July 28. Sharma’s earlier parole plea was rejected by the court June 1.
Sharma was convicted for murdering his wife Sahni, whom he suspected of infidelity. On July 2, 1995, he shot her with his licensed revolver, took her body to a restaurant, chopped the body into small pieces and tried to burn it in a tandoor (oven).
A city court sentenced Sharma to death Nov 7, 2003 after which he filed a review petition in the high court. The high court upheld his death sentence in February 2007. The appeal is now pending in the Supreme Court.
Sharma is lodged in Tihar Jail since 2004.
