Kolkata, March 6 (IANS) Abu Taher, an alleged associate of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) arrested from a railway station here Friday, had contacts with Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi, police sources said Saturday.
Sources in the city police’s Special Task Force (STF) said Taher received explosive training in Lahore.

He had contacts with the top LeT leadership including its operations commander Lakhvi, they said.

Asked if Taher was in any way linked to the Nov 26 Mumbai terrorist attacks, they said they could not say so for certain now.

The 45-year-old explosives expert, nabbed from the Sealdah station by the STF, was Saturday produced in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s (SDJM) Court at Sealdah and remanded to police custody for 10 days.

Taher had managed to evade the police for 10 years, police officials said. He was staying in Bangladesh for the last few years, they said.
