Mystery surrounds Chandigarh doctor’s death
December 22nd, 2011 - 1:27 am ICT by IANSChandigarh, Dec 21 (IANS) A leading private cardiologist, who was last year convicted by a court for abetting the suicide of his doctor wife in 2005, was found dead under mysterious circumstances Wednesday in his vehicle near Derabassi town of Punjab, 20 km from here, police said.
The Punjab police have registered a case of murder and are investigating the death of cardiologist Deepak Kaura, who used to run the Oxford Hospital in Sector 19 here.
His body was found in his new Tata Aria vehicle on the Derabassi-Habbetpur road Wednesday.
Investigating officials said that Kaura left his house Tuesday night to make some purchases from the market. However, he did not return.
“A person saw his vehicle near Derabassi with the body wrapped in a blanket. He informed police who started investigations,” said a police official in Derabassi.
Kaura was convicted by a Chandigarh court July last year and sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment on charges of abetting the suicide of his wife, Babita Kaura, in January 2005 here.
Babita, who was an assistant professor at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), had fallen from her flat in Sector 24 mysteriously.
Police first booked Deepak Kaura and his sister Deepali for murder but later this was converted into a case of abetment to suicide against him only.
The couple had strained relations owing to an alleged extra-marital affair of Deepak Kaura, police investigation had found.
Kaura was himself a cardiologist at the PGIMER before turning to private practice.
