Mystery of dumped foetuses solved
April 21st, 2010 - 12:15 am ICT by IANSGandhinagar, April 20 (IANS) The mystery behind the dumping of a dozen human foetuses at a garbage dump in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area has been solved with the arrest of a gynaecologist, police said Tuesday.
Twelve human foetuses, some of them half eaten by stray dogs, were Monday found strewn near Malek Saban stadium in the area. Of the 12 foetuses, seven are male and five were female, a police official said.
An elderly gynaecologist, Jayanti Patel, who ran a clinic nearby and had decided to close it down was the culprit. He has been arrested for unhygienic disposal of bio-medical waste in a public place.
Patel said the foetuses were aborted over a period of time and were preserved as specimens. Following closure of the clinic, he was shifting the specimens elsewhere when the car in which these were being carried met with an accident. The specimens were damaged and he was left with no option but to dump them at the spot.
