Myanmar cyclone toll rises to 28,458

Yangon, May 11 (Xinhua) The toll in Myanmar’s cyclone disaster Sunday rose to 28,458 from the earlier figure of 23,335, the state-run television channel reported. Around 33,416 people remained missing, down from 37,019, the report said.

A deadly tropical cyclone Nargis hit the five divisions of the country May 3: Yangon, Bago, Ayeyawaddy, Kayin and Mon. Ayeyawaddy and Yangon divisions were the worst hit.

A total of 40 townships in Yangon division and seven townships in Ayeyawaddy division remained critical Sunday even as the relief and rehabilitation work continued.
