Islamabad, Aug 18 (Xinhua) All controversial amendments made to the constitution by former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf would be scrapped, Education Minister Ahsan Iqbal said here Monday. The official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) quoted Iqbal, who is also information secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), as saying that the 1973 constitution would be restored to its original shape.

The president, in the face of an impeachment planned by the ruling coalition, Monday announced his resignation in a televised address to the nation and said he took the decision in the best interest of the country.

Musharraf came to power in 1999 through a bloodless military coup. He had the constitution amended to arm the president with the power to dissolve parliament.
