New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) A 52-year-old murder convict, absconding for 26 years, has been arrested in Uttarakhand, Delhi Police said Monday. Ravinder Kumar alias Surender Pal alias J.K. Narula was arrested in Dehradun Sunday. He was carrying a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his head. The police said he has been on the run since 1985.
Kumar killed his friend with a dagger over a trivial issue in Sriniwaspuri here in 1975. He was arrested and the designated court sentenced him to life term.
He, however, managed to escape after spending five years in jail.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said his teams had visited many places in the country on the basis of information collected from his crime associates and friends.
“It was very difficult to trace him as he kept changing his identity and hideouts,” Dhaliwal said.
Kumar in his questioning said that most of his associates in crime have either died in shootouts or perished. They all were involved in robbing banks, jewellery shops and diamond merchants.
