Mumbai terror toll put at 183 (Lead)
November 29th, 2008 - 7:07 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) The Mumbai terror attack that ended Saturday left 183 people dead, including 22 foreigners, the Indian government announced.M.L. Kumawat, a senior officer in the home ministry, said the dead also included 20 policemen including two commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG).
The other police fatalities included 14 from the Maharashtra Police, one from the State Reserve Police, two Home Guards and one from the Railway Protection Force.
He said 141 civilians were killed in the mayhem that began Wednesday night when terrorists who Indian officials say came from Pakistan entered Mumbai by boat and struck at 10 places.
The foreigners who died included three Germans and Israelis each, two Canadians, and one each from the US, Britain, Japan, Australia, Italy, China, Thailand, Mauritius and Singapore.
Five dead foreigners were yet to be identified, said Kumawat, special secretary in the home ministry. Another 23 foreigners were injured, he said.
