Mumbai scribe’s killers left no clue: Home minister
June 17th, 2011 - 10:03 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, June 17 (IANS) Admitting that the police have not found any vital clues in the killing of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil said the killers were smart not to have left any clue behind.
A week after Dey’s murder close to his residence in Mumbai, police have not been able to gather any evidence from the three people who were detained in connection with the case. The three are believed to be members of Chhota Shakeel gang.
“Some criminals are very smart. They have not left any clues. That is why investigation is becoming a little tough,” Patil told reporters here.
He, however, said he had faith in the abilities of Mumbai police and that the investigation is progressing in the right direction.
“Police are on the right track and will surely catch the accused. They should be given sufficient time,” he said.
Dey, editor (special investigations) at Mid Day, was shot dead by four unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants as he was going on his motorcycle near his residence Saturday afternoon, sending shockwaves in the city’s media circles.
The Crime Branch had Monday released the sketch of one of the four suspects in the case.
