April 25th, 2010 - 12:09 am ICT by IANSMumbai, April 24 (IANS) The Mumbai police is now better equipped and feels more confident of tackling any terror attacks in the future, its chief said here Saturday
“We will surely be able to tackle a terror attack better, but no one can ever promise to prevent such an attack,” said Police Commissioner D.Sivanandan in his speech at the 11th anniversary celebration of NGO Action for Good Governance and Networking in India (AGNI).
Mumbai police has added various equipment and more trained policemen to the force after the 26/11 terror attacks, he said.
“There are 39 assault teams, one in each division equipped with AK-47s, 9mm carbines and other equipment, which will be the first to respond to a terror attack,” he said.
“Coastal security has also been taken care of with 12 police stations along the shore and the introduction of ‘Sealegs’ - an amphibian vehicle. Eight boats have already arrived from the Goa Shipyard and 29 more have been ordered,” he added.
The police commissioner also urged the citizens to be alert and prevent crimes in and around their neighbourhood.
