He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministries of External Affairs, Finance, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Steel, Science and Technology and Culture.
The Inter-Governmental Commission meeting will be co-chaired by Mukherjee on the Indian side and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander D. Zhukov on the Russian side.
The Commission will review progress in various fields since the 12th Session of the Inter-Governmental Commission, which took place in New Delhi in December 2006, a government spokesman said.
There are five Working Groups (WGs) under the Commission - on (i) Trade and Economic Cooperation; (ii) Mines and Metallurgy; (iii) Energy; (iv) Science and Technology; (v) Tourism and Culture.
These WGs meet over the year to review progress since the last year in their respective fields.
On October 10 and 11, a Joint Task Force on Mutual Financial Obligations will discuss settlement of financial issues between the two countries. sub-Group on banking had separately met from October 4 to 6, 2007 to deliberate on cooperation in the banking sector.
A protocol on the 13th Session of the Inter-Governmental Commission is to be signed at the conclusion of the meeting.
During the visit, Mr. Mukherjee is expected to meet Russian dignitaries, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. (ANI)
