New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Saturday asked his Nepalese counterpart to expedite the setting-up of integrated check posts on the Nepalese side of the border.
“Construction work on building integrated check posts on the Indo-Nepal border has already started on Indian side,” Mukherjee said while asking Nepalese Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun to do the same on his side.
According to Mukherjee, these check posts will help in expediting the process of customs clearances and immigration between both the sides.
“These check posts, once operational, would help in expediting the customs clearances as well as immigration clearances in an efficient manner,” Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee also asked his Nepalese counterpart to provide safety to Indian businessmen and entities operating in Nepal.
The finance minister pointed out that the Bilateral Investment Promotion Agreement (BIPA), signed between two countries Friday, would promote investments.
Pun, on the other hand, assured Mukherjee of providing security to Indian businessmen in Nepal and sought India’s support in completion of various projects in Nepal.
Pun further assured Mukherjee that the finalisation of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between the two countries would also be expedited.
