MoU with CAG to audit rural development schemes: Ramesh
October 9th, 2011 - 5:30 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Oct 9 (IANS) Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh Sunday said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to audit his ministry’s schemes.
“The rural development ministry will soon sign an MoU with the CAG to audit the schemes under it,” Ramesh told reporters here. Ramesh was in Jharkhand for two days to review the rural development ministry schemes.
The schemes include the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) and the Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).
The minister did not divulge the details of the MoU. The aim is to monitor the schemes and ensure a free and fair audit report.
He said: “There are many states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh which do not submit the utilisation certificate and audit report on time.”
