Moscow ramps up security ahead of Putin inauguration
May 6th, 2012 - 7:08 am ICT by IANSMoscow, May 6 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Police have stepped up security across Moscow ahead of the inauguration of President Vladimir Putin May 7.
Security was also in place for the opposition March of Millions rally to be held Sunday.
A day ahead of Putin’s inauguration as president, his All-Russia People’s Front public movement will hold a mass rally Sunday dedicated to the first anniversary of its establishment, the organisation said.
Several police buses are currently parked near Revolution Square in central Moscow, and riot police vehicles are also on duty.
Metal barriers have been placed along Tverskaya Street, the main thoroughfare in Moscow, which will be the route of the traditional May 9 Victory Parade. Large military vehicles including tanks, missile launchers and heavy guns will take part in the parade, and military aircraft will fly overhead.
