London, Oct 15 (IANS) Denied a chance of playing in the Ranji Trophy due to overseas player restrictions, leg-spinner Monty Panesar has decided to sweat it out in Sri Lanka to prepare for England’s winter tour of India.”Monty is going to play in Sri Lanka for a month prior to going to India, which is a great opportunity for him,” England coach Peter Moores said Tuesday.

“He wants to learn there through experience. He’s been before and he knows there are tough conditions. He hopes to learn a lot and prepare himself for the Tests in India,” Moores added.

Panesar, who will leave for Colombo in November, is to play for Bloomfield club for a month before joining the England cricket team in India in December.

Sri Lanka Test players Sanath Jayasuriya and Tillakaratne Dilshan play for Bloomfield, but the club is said to have no well-known spinners.

Panesar has taken 114 Test wickets at an average of 31.95, but just 13 at 55 in six Tests in the sub-continent.

He was recently described as “one dimensional” by Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne.
