Sydney, Feb 12 (IANS) Having booked his maiden berth in the national squad, Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques has struck a deal with Kolkata Knight Riders for the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The New South Wales player bagged a $450,000 deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

He was Wednesday picked in Australia’s 13-man squad to take on New Zealand in Sunday’s Twenty20 clash at the SCG. He is now about to become the first Portugal-born cricketer to represent Australia.

The 22-year-old is overwhelmed with the dual offers.

“I thought there was absolutely no chance of this happening,” Henriques was quoted as saying in Australian media.

The right-hander was playing in front of just 40 people as NSW’s second XI took on Victoria in a park at St Kilda when he got the news of his selection in the national team.

“(Teammate) Steve Smith received a text message from (Blues coach) Matt Mott around lunch, letting me know I had made the Australian Twenty20 team. At first I thought he was taking the mickey out of me. Then when I realised he wasn’t I had to sit for 20 minutes because of the shock,” said the 22-year-old.

His father Alvaro immigrated to Australia from Portugal with his family 20 years ago.
