Mohit Shah new Bombay High Court chief justice
June 25th, 2010 - 8:35 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, June 25 (IANS) Justice Mohit Shantilal Shah will be the new chief justice of Bombay High Court, an official release Friday said.
Shah, presently the chief justice of Calcutta High Court, will be sworn in by Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Saturday, the release from the governor’s office said.
Shah succeeds Anil Dave, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court. Jainarayan Patel, who was serving as the acting chief justice of Bombay High Court, has now been appointed as the chief justice of Calcutta High Court.
Shah started his practice in Gujarat High Court in 1976. After obtaining an LL.M degree from Gujarat University, Shah served as a part-time professor in a law college and thereafter taught at the University School of Law at Ahmedabad.
He was appointed additional judge of Gujarat High Court in 1995 and became a full judge in the same court June 1997. Shah took over as chief justice of Calcutta High Court in December 2009.
