Dhaka, Feb 20 (IANS) Indian dancer Pallavi Krishnan Friday began a workshop in Mohiniyattam here for Bangladeshi dance enthusiasts.
Pallavi is a leading exponent of Mohiniyattam, a dance form from Kerala in India. She is known for her tremendous efforts to promote and preserve this style of Indian classical dance.
She is an alumnus of both Santiniketan (Viswa Bharati University) and Kerala Kalamandalam. Pallavi has enriched the repertoire of Mohiniyattam by choreographing many items, both traditional and thematic, BSS news agency said.
The High Commission of India here in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations has organised the workshop at the High Commission’s Dance and Music Training Centre.
Mohiniyattam is a lyrical classical dance. Its movements are soft and graceful and soaked in feminine grace. Mohini means ‘enchantress’ and attam means ‘dance’.
Mohiniyattam is the dance of the enchantress traditionally performed by women, New Age newspaper said.
