Moderate tremors felt in north India (Lead)
March 21st, 2011 - 8:46 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 21 (IANS) The northern parts of the country, including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir, felt moderate tremors Monday afternoon after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Hindukush region of Afghanistan. No loss of property or life has been reported, an official said.
“An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude (on the Richter scale) jolted northern parts of the country at around 3.19 p.m. Monday,” an official of the India Meteorological Department told IANS.
The epicentre of the earthquake was in Hindukush at latitude 36.5 degrees north and longitude 70.9 degrees east.
