New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale rocked the Andaman Island Sunday afternoon, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Seismologists at the IMD said the tremor was felt around 3 p.m. under the sea belly in the Bay of Bengal.

They said the epicentre of the earthquake was about 130 km southwest of Port Blair, the capital of the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

“Though Andmans have witnessed a couple of tremors in the last one month, there is nothing to worry. We have not issued any tsunami warning,” an IMD official said here.

Authorities said they have not received any report of casualties or loss of property.

The Indian coastline faced a major earthquake leading to a tsunami Dec 26, 2004, killing thousands of people.
