Lucknow, Nov 30 (IANS) Two mobile phone batteries, a letter written in Urdu and a mobile telephone number were seized from an alleged agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) while he was being taken to a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district Monday, police said.
Waqas Ahmed, who was arrested May 27 this year, was being taken to the court of the chief metropolitan magistrate when these items were seized from him during a security check.

“While he was carrying two mobile batteries in his pocket, a piece of paper containing a mobile number was hidden in the ‘taveez’ (amulet) that he was wearing around his neck,” Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kanpur range, B.P.Jogdand, told IANS.

The letter, written in Urdu, was addressed to his wife and nothing objectionable was found in it, he added.

“We have put the number on our radar and will not divulge any details about it as of now,” Jogdand added.

Ahmed is lodged in the high security cell of the Kanpur district jail since his arrest from the Bithoor area of the district and jail authorities have denied any negligence on their part.

“He (Ahmed) is in a high security isolation barrack and any kind of security lag from our side is impossible. However, we will be providing all possible assistance to police in their investigations,” S.M.Rizvi, the jailor, told IANS.
