Mob torches outpost, five policemen injured
January 5th, 2011 - 4:25 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Jan 5 (IANS) At least five policemen were injured, two of them critically, when a mob torched their outpost in Uttar Pradesh Wednesday to protest the arrest of a suspected robber.Alleging that the arrested man was not linked to the robbery at a post office Dec 9, protestors in Jamaniya town in Ghazipur district went on a rampage. They barged into the police outpost and set it on fire.
“Five policemen, including the outpost in-charge, have been seriously injured. Two are in critical condition,” Superintendent of Police Shaqeel Ahmad told reporters in Ghazipur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“Additional forces from various police stations have been deployed in the area. The situation is tense but well under control,” he said.
