Mob blocks traffic after girl run over
February 14th, 2010 - 2:03 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS) A speeding water tanker Saturday ran over a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in south Delhi leading to protests by her parents and relatives. Police had to baton charge the protesters to disperse them.
Khushi was crossing the road in Vasant Vihar area when she was hit and run over by the vehicle by the tanker in the afternoon. She died on the spot.
She lived in the nearby slums, where her father Manoj Yadav worked as an an electrician.
After the incident, an agitated mob blocked traffic in the area and police used force to disperse the crowd.
The tanker’s driver, Lakshmi Kant, has been arrested.
