Missing nurse case: Brother of absconding suspect arrested
December 30th, 2011 - 11:48 pm ICT by IANSJodhpur, Dec 30 (IANS) The brother of a key suspect in the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday, sources said.
Omprakash Bishnoi is the brother of Bishnaram Bishnoi, a key suspect in the case who has been on the run and untraced for long.
The CBI is interrogating Omprakash to find Bishnaram who carries a cash reward of Rs.500,000 on his head.
“Omprakash was being searched by the CBI for a few days, but he was untraceable. It came up that he was in contact with Bishnaram even after the agency announced the cash reward on his brother,” sources in the CBI told IANS.
Omprakash was traced in Barmer district and taken into custody.
“He is being interrogated by the CBI and Jodhpur police jointly,” sources added.
The CBI had claimed in a charge sheet before a court earlier that Shahabuddin, Sohan Lal and Baldev Jat had kidnapped Bhanwari Sep 1, and then handed her to a gang of criminals near Newara Road in Jodhpur.
CBI sources claim that the gang was headed by Bishnaram, a known criminal who has over 35 police cases registered against him.
In the charge sheet, the CBI claimed that Sahiram Bishnoi had got Bhanwari Devi kidnapped at the behest of sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna.
The nurse allegedly features in a CD showing Maderna in a compromising position with her. The CBI alleged that she was trying to blackmail Maderna on the basis of the CD.
The agency has already arrested Maderna, Malkhan Singh Bishnoi, the Congress legislator from Luni constituency, and the three kidnappers in the case. Sahiram Bishnoi, his friend Umesharam Bishnoi, Bhanwari’s husband Amarchand and Malkhan’s brother Parasram Bishnoi have also been arrested.
CBI is also carrying out raids in search of Malkhan’s sister Indra Bishnoi who is a suspect in the crime.
