Thane (Maharashtra), Dec 9 (IANS) A man accused of raping a minor in Maharashtra’s Thane district has been arrested, a police official said Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Vishwas Nagre-Patil denied the girl was gang-raped.

“Family members and relatives were under the impression that the girl was gang-raped. But police investigation showed that she was raped by only one person, Dattu Thakare, and the other two were only his accomplices,” he told reporters.

The 16-year-old was raped Dec 5 and consumed poison the next day. She was admitted to the local hospital but died late Wednesday night, and it was then the rape was discovered.
