Minor set afire for resisting rape, one held
September 1st, 2011 - 11:51 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 1 (IANS) A teenaged girl in Uttar Pradesh?s Bahraich district was set afire and injured by three youths for resisting rape, police said Thursday. One accused has been arrested.
The victim was battling for her life with 80 percent burns, and two other accused are on the run, police said.
Sooma (name changed), 16, was set on fire by three of her distant relatives Sunil, Satish and Subhash, all aged 20-25 years, in Sardarpara village Aug 29. Subhash has been arrested.
?A case against the three accused was registered today (Thursday) after the victim?s family approached us,” inspector B.K. Yadav told reporters in Bahraich, some 140 km from Lucknow.
