Minor killed in police cross-fire

Ghaziabad, April 27 (IANS) A nine-year-old boy was killed when he was caught in the cross-fire between the police and a criminal here Wednesday evening, police said. A man and two policemen were also injured, but the criminal managed to flee.

According to police, they received a tip-off that a dreaded criminal Sarvar Singh was likely to visit his village Deheta in Pilakhuwa area to attend a marriage function.

Sarvar reached the function on time even as some policemen in plainclothes surrounded the venue.

However, Sarvar noticed the men and opened fire at them, forcing the team to retaliate.

The boy Aman, who was standing nearby, was hit in the cross-fire and died.

Sub-inspector Sanjeev Bishnoi, constable Kamal Kumar and a man identified as Babu were also injured. The three were rushed to a hospital, and their condition is stated to be serious.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Raghubir Lal, who visited the spot, said: “A post mortem will be conducted to find out whether Aman had died from the police firing. If proved, a case of murder will be registered against the policemen.”

Sarvar Singh, with a criminal record against him, managed to flee the spot.
