Mild earthquake rocks Turkey

Ankara, July 10 (Xinhua) A mild earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale Thursday jolted the western parts of Turkey, a media report said. The quake occurred at 0749 GMT and rocked the Gonen town of Balikesir province, the Anatolia news agency reported.

No further details were available, it said.

Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey. In 1999, more than 18,000 people were killed in two devastating earthquakes in the country.
