Microsoft engineer among NRI family killed in accident

- Mumbai, Nov 22 (IANS) A software engineer working for Microsoft in California was among four members of a family killed Saturday morning in an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, police said.Padmaja V. Bhirud (28) was travelling along with her family from Mumbai to Pune in a Tavera SUV.
At about 6.30 a.m., a short distance from where the expressway ended, the vehicle’s driver reportedly lost control and collided with a truck, said investigating officer M.B. Yadav.
The impact killed four of the six members of the family.
Besides Padmaja, her husband Vikas (34), also a software engineer with a California-based company, their 18-month son Avrad and Vikas’s mother Kumud were killed, Yadav said.
Padmaja’s brother Rajesh Ingle told IANS that the family had come to India a few days ago for a month long vacation. After a trip to Mumbai, they were returning home to Greenpark area of Pune when the mishap occurred.
Among the survivors are Vikas’s father Suresh D. Bhirud (65), the couple’s 18-month old daughter Saura and vehicle driver M.Y. Sheikh. They have been admitted to a Pune hospital.
